Your party consists of four characters and will remain the same through the entire game, so
hopefully you like them all right from the start. The characters never interact with each other.
The only talking in the game is when your main character talks to towns people and bosses. As
the game goes on, you will eventually be able to upgrade your characters (ie. transforming your
fighter into a knight). To do this you have to obtain a Rat Tail from the Castle of Ordeal and
bring it to Bahamut.
This is the barbarian character of Final Fantasy I. He is incredibly strong and has very high
defence against weapon attacks. His strength does come with a price though, he is very week
against magic attacks. The Fighter's weapons and armor can get pretty costly as the game goes
along. Once the fighter becomes a knight, he can learn 3 levels of white magic spells.
The Black Belt is another powerful fighter, especially when he is upgraded to Master. Since
this character uses hand to hand combat, you don't have to worry about constantly buying new
weapons. He also uses a lot of foot to face moves like jump kicks. You can't go wrong
with having this character in your group.
Although the Thief lacks strength, he makes up for it in being extremely quick and agile. When
this character is upgraded to a Ninja, he starts specializing in certain weapons which
causes his strength to increase. As well as weapon specialization, the Ninja has access to
4 levels of powerful black magic.
The Red Mage is a happy medium between Mage's and Fighter's. Unfortunately he doesn't have the
best of both worlds. He gets to use a little bit of magic, and has some strength. He has 3
options for spells, white magic, black magic, or a combination of the two. You should make
sure he has a combination of the two because he's the only character that can use both sides
of magic.
Does the Black Mage suck against weapon attacks? You better believe it, but when it comes to
dealing magic attacks there's no better. This character has huge magic attacks such at Nuke
that will waste enemies. He does have high defense though when it comes to enemies doing
magic attacks on him. With the right spells, the Black Mage can eliminate an enemy party
very fast.
This character class is a must in you party. The White Mage has incredibly strong healing
spells. With the white spells this character can destroy undead enemies very easily and
fast. Like the Black Mage, he is very week agains weapon attacks and doesn't have a lot of hit
points, but without the White Mage your party will have a lot of trouble.
